Biography

Edison Pereyra is a Dominican-American classical guitarist from New York/New Jersey, United States. He has been performing music for over a decade and has appeared throughout much of the United States, The Caribbean, and Europe. He earned his bachelor’s degree from New Jersey City University in 2018 and pursued his master’s degree from The New England Conservatory of Music, graduating in the Spring of 2020. Edison is currently in the process of attaining his Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) at Stony Brook University in Long Island, New York.

At the modest age of 10 years old, Edison first acquired an interest in music and, more specifically, the guitar. However, it wasn’t until two years later at the age of 12 that he was first gifted a guitar and quickly began teaching himself how to play. Despite a rather slow start and several decisions to quit, Edison eventually accumulated some chops and began high school at the Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy in Elizabeth, NJ. There he met (now Dr.) Steven Sabet, and learned all of the fundamentals of classical guitar and basic note reading through his guitar classes (levels 1-4). Most notably, Dr. Sabet introduced him to classical guitar and helped prepare him for college auditions throughout his last years of high school. From that point on, Edison’s musical life was focused on the classical guitar.

With 10 years of experience teaching, Edison developed incredible patience and efficiency in his craft. Anyone can play music, and with the proper instruction and dedication, anyone can be great. Edison knew very little about music at a relatively late age, and although there are many roads ahead, he gained immense progress from the start. He has played and studied with world-famous guitarist João Luiz (member of the Brasil Guitar Duo), performed in Carnegie Hall and Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, and has been featured on Guitar Salon International (GSI). Edison is also a member of the New Jersey Guitar Orchestra and performs with several other ensembles and instruments.
